What to post on Boxing Day

It lands on a Saturday, so plenty are out and about; a warm, easy invitation does well.

The run-up

Every day between now and then that is worth a post

Not one a day. These are the ones that do a job. What each is for is underneath it.

Sun 20 Dec 6 days before Decide your Boxing Day tone Choose now whether you're open, resting, or somewhere in between, and what you want to say. Settling it before Christmas means you're not scrambling on the day itself. Write this one →
Tue 22 Dec 4 days before Plan the calm post While the big shops go loud, line up something human, a thank-you, a slow-morning photo, an easy "we're open if you fancy a wander". Different is what gets seen. Write this one →
Wed 23 Dec 3 days before Say your hours, clearly People honestly don't know who's open the day after Christmas. A plain note of your hours is useful on its own, and useful posts are the ones that get passed on. Write this one →
Fri 25 Dec The day before Make it an invitation If you're open, keep it low-pressure, an invitation, not a countdown. After Christmas people want calm, not another clock ticking at them. Write this one →
Sat 26 Dec The day On the day Post one warm, unhurried thing, the still shop, a fresh pot on, whoever wandered in. That's the note people keep once the sales blur into one. Write this one →
The idea most businesses miss

When everyone zigs, zag

Marty Neumeier's rule is that in a crowded moment the way to be seen is to do the opposite of everyone else. On Boxing Day every feed is a wall of red signs, so the boldest move is the quiet one: a human, generous, unhurried post in a sea of shouting. Zag.

Questions

The questions people ask

Should I even bother posting on Boxing Day?
One post is plenty. It keeps you in mind without adding to the noise, and it's cheap goodwill at a moment nobody expects it.
I'm closed on Boxing Day. What then?
Say so warmly, wish people a good rest, and tell them when you're back. A closed sign done kindly still counts as a post.
Isn't it a wasted chance not to run a sale?
Plenty will run one and blur together. Standing apart for a day is often worth more than joining a race you can't win.
